TOPSHOT – A combination of photographs created on July 16, 2017 shows Switzerlands Roger Federer holding up the Wimbledon Championships trophy after winning each of his eight mens singles titles at The All England Tennis Club in Wimbledon, southwest London, in (top L-R) 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, (bottom L-R) 2007, 2009, 2012 and July 16, 2017.
On Sunday, Roger Federer became the oldest men’s champion in the Open era and the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to sweep through the draw without dropping a set. He also broke his tie with Sampras and the 19th-century player William Renshaw by becoming the first man to win eight Wimbledon singles titles.
Wimbledon was the big goal. It is Federer’s favorite tournament, the one where he made his first big career move by upsetting the seven-time champion Pete Sampras in the 2001 quarterfinals. It is also the one where Federer won his first Grand Slam singles title, in 2003.
